Xcat World Series

The UIM XCAT World Series has given a new dimension to the sport of international offshore powerboat racing and found a perfect Grand Prix venue in Abu Dhabi.

The world championship for extreme catamarans was launched in 2009 with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix taking its place on the calendar.

As with the F1 and Class 1 world championships, Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club provides a superb organisational race headquarters and one of the most exciting courses in the series.

The waters between the Breakwater and the Corniche create dramatic spectator race viewing over the three-day Grand Prix programme.

Built using advanced carbon technology, the mighty XCATs match F1 race cars for motor sport thrills and performance, their twin 600hp outboard engines propelling them at speeds up to 220kmh.

Each Grand Prix features an official practice session, a pole position race to fix the starting order and an exhilarating Speed Cat Run.

Designed to boost spectator appeal but also offering championship bonus points, this dramatic head-to-head knockout series sends two boats at a time into action over a 1km course, providing a brilliant appetiser for the Grand Prix to follow the next day.

XCAT - Team Abu Dhabi

Team Abu Dhabi has established itself as one of the most powerful contenders in the UIM XCAT World Series since the championship was launched in 2009.

The team now runs two boats in the spectacular championship for extreme catamarans, with Emirati crews challenging for race honours and the world title.

Rashed Al-Tayer and Faleh Al-Mansoori made a brilliant attempt to win the 2015 XCAT World Series, eventually finishing runners up in their first season.

Majed Al-Mansoori and Rashed Al-Qamzi in the other Team Abu Dhabi boat showed great promise in selected events to underline the potential for the team to add to its success in Class 1 and F1 powerboat racing.

The all-Emirati team is managed by Salem Al Remeithi, with the experienced Nasser Al Dhaheri as technical coordinator supported by committed mechanics and radiomen.
